Buddhist Monk Sentenced to 30 Months in Prison

After being arrested back in September 2015 for stealing $200K from his Lafayette temple so that he could play Blackjack at a casino in Lake Charles, Khang Nguyen Le has been sentenced to 30 months in prison, faces deportation back to Vietnam and has to return the $250K he stole.

“It was certainly not my intention to steal the money of the temple,” Nguyen admitted. Hmm, not sure how that plays when your wallet is $250k heavier.

Thanks to Asso Poker for originally reporting on it.

However, this isn’t the first time monks have made the headlines for the wrong reasons—back in 2012 a buddhist monk was caught in a high-stakes cash game scandal and narrowly avoided prison.
